Home-made nutrients for your hydroponic forest!

When I got started with hydroponics, the thing that kept irking me most was the fact that while I was growing my own vegetables, I still had to rely on storebought nutrients for my plants to grow.

We all know the drill – buy the A, B type nutrients, mix them with water and make sure you’re accurate with everything. Didn’t sound all that natural to me, so I went out in search of a more natural alternative.

Introducing Nutri-tea bags!

Well, it’s not really a product. Just something you can brew on your own. It’s that simple.

1.Look for a cloth lying around which is porous enough. I’d recommend if you can get your hands on a clean muslin cloth.

2. Find some compost. Go to your local nursery or order good vermicompost from Amazon. Worm castings work even better. Most nutrients our plants need are packed in this matter.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also try making it at home!

3. Make small bags of the muslin cloth and fill them with your compost mix.

You can staple a string on one end which you can use to suspend your nutri-tea bag.

You can straight-away dunk these nutri-tea bags into your hydroponic setup. Depending on how big your tank is, you can size up the bag and suspend it in.

Within 5-10 hours the nutrients will be in the tank. If you add an aeration pump to your tank during this period, it’s even better. You can remove the bag from your setup after a day. When you feel that the plants need some more nutrients, drop in another bag and you’re good to go!

Sounds too simple to be true? I’ll show you all the research behind it in another post.

Did you try it out? Post photos of your nutri-tea bags and your hydroponics setup and we’ll send you a sweet surprise!
